Ayurveda could be said as the first structured medical science to have come into existence. Ayurveda means “knowledge of life’. Though it is an age old science, the elaborate and accurate description of etiology, diagnosis, prognosis, medication, regimen, patient care during convalescence etc. in many authoritative ayurvedic text books are far superior even to the modern health science. In reality, Ayurveda discusses not only about diseases and its cure, but it describes about the way of living as a whole. It is the only medical science, which combines philosophy of life and treatment along with cure of diseases.

The importance here is for the Rogi (Patient) and not for the Roga (Disease).

The principle of a sound mind and body is based on a harmonious balance of Tridoshas that is Vata, Pitta and Kapha. The patient is examined taking into consideration various factors like Dosham, Dooshyam, Balam, Kalam, Analam, Prakriti (Imbalance of Vata, Pitta and Kapha, creates abnormality in the seven elements of the body, strength of body, weather and climatic condition, digestive power etc.) and a diagnosis is arrived at. While making the diagnosis, always the root cause of the disease and not the immediate symptom is searched for.

Panchakarma Therapy
These are a group of five highly powerful and therapeutic procedures to eliminate toxins out of the body which are produced as a result of metabolic processes. Both healthy and diseased people can avail these therapies. All these five procedures are accompanied by Poorva Karma (Pre – operative) and Paschat Karma (Post – operative) procedures. These include:
  • Vamana (Medicated Emesis)
  • Virechana (Medicated Purgation)
  • Asthapana Vasti (Enema with Decoctions)
  • Anuvasana Vasti (Enema with Medicated Oils)
  • Nasya (Administration of medicine through nostrils)
Palliative Therapy
This includes the use of herbal medicines like decoctions, medicated ghee etc and through lifestyle modifications (dietary and routine changes). This can be given alone or along with main panchakarma therapy depending upon the disease condition. It rejuvenates the body and rasayana medicines increases the vigour and vitality.
