What is Glaucoma?
Glaucoma is an eye disease in which fluid coming out from eyes at regular intervals of time. The ability to visualize things gets damaged in this disease. There are many types of glaucoma but the most common is open angle glaucoma. Generally glaucoma is found in the Unites States where several of people are affected through it and many lost their eye-sight permanently.
In glaucoma, optic nerve gets damaged which is the reason to see through our eyes. There is small gap at the front of our eye from where fluid flows in surroundings keeping tissues healthy. When glaucoma is found, the gap was distorted due to which regular flow of fluid stops. The incoming fluid creates pressure and damage optic nerve.
Symptoms of Glaucoma
In the beginning, there are no visible signs and the condition is also not painful. It is difficult to analyze glaucoma at earlier stage. And that’s why many people suffering from glaucoma could not get treatment in earlier stage when it is easily treatable. Increasing days without perfect cure will lead to decline peripheral vision prior to front vision. Patient can view the objects which are placed in front of them but unable to see objects to the side.
Starting from the peripheral, vision is continuously decline and by the time front vision will also gets declined. After reaching at this stage (binocular vision), glaucoma cannot be cured but treatments are available which helps to see clearly and maintain vision for a long time.
Treatment for Glaucoma
There is no basic treatment for glaucoma, yet the pressure of the fluid can be take in control by using medicines or eye drops. Eye drops can helps to prevent too much of pressure by flowing fluid. Certain pills, tablets are also available in market in order to decrease pressure. Surgical operations are also done when medicines and eye drops does not make good effect. Glaucoma is a hereditary disease and can happen to anyone. Generally, it is occurred to the people having age of 35 or above.
