What is Parkinson's disease?
When the nervous tissues at the central part of the brain start degenerating then it causes Parkinson's disease. It is also known as Paralysis agitans. This affects the person's motor skills which hampers the speech and movement of the body parts.
In Ayurveda, there is a similar disease like Parkinson's disease which is known as Kampa vata. Here, Kampa means shaking or a sort of vibration. Ayurveda describes such disease where constant shaking of the body part occurs. It can be in head or limbs. This creates difficulty in body movements, expressionless face, problem while speaking and others. A person having age from 65 or above suffers from this disease. This disease is not so common in the underdeveloped or developing countries. This disease even existed 3000 years ago.
Use of Natural herbs
- There are so many herbs that are suggested in this disease just like Levodopa. This is very much beneficial in this kind of disease.
- Synthetic L-Dopa has so many side effects but a natural herb known as Mucuna pruriens cures the Parkinson's disease in a better way. It has little side effects.
- Mucuna pruriens, Sida cordifolia and Ashwaganda are some of the herbs that are used in the ayurvedic treatment.
During the ayurvedic treatment, the vata is balanced. There are so many therapies which are introduced by ayurveda. For instance Massage therapy, medication and enema are applied here. A holistic approach is applied here.
The ayurvedic treatment is not just about the application of the therapies and natural herbs. It also includes the identification of the origin of such disease in the body and then treating it by removing those reasons. The medication helps in diagnosing the disease. The imbalance in mind, body and spirit leads to Parkinson's disease which must be cured as early as possible.
