The disease of Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) is actually a group of autosomal dominant and inherited disorders which can be characterized by night blindness and peripheral and progressive loss of vision. The ultimate result of this medical disorder is loss of central vision. Some of the common symptoms are visual light flashes, loss of vision, night blindness etc. Sometimes, the patients can also suffer other problems like loss of hearing ability. For halting the procedure of degeneration and improvement of vision damage, the following medicine can be used: Kuchla (Strychnos nuxvomica), Patha (Cissampelos pareira), Patol (Tricosanthe dioica), Haridra (Curcuma longa), Saariva (Hemidesmus indicus), Manjishtha (Rubia cordifolia), Usheerasav, Chandanasav, Saarivasav, Maha-Manjishthadi-Qadha, Trivang-Bhasma, Abhrak-Bhasma, Bruhat-Vat-Chintamani, Maha-Vat-Vidhwans-Ras, Tapyadi-Loh, Ekang-Veer-Ras, Tapyadi-Loh, Punarnavadi-Mandur etc.
A special procedure of panchkarma known as 'Akshi-Tarpan' can be used for RP treatment. A paste is applied uniformly around the eyes in this procedure. Medications like warm Triphala-Ghrut and Yashtimadhak-Ghrut are poured to submerge the eyes for some time. It will give great relief to eyes. After the specified time the paste is removed after draining of medicine. At last cleaning of eye lids is done. It is believed that this procedure is helpful in restoring and preserving the vision of eyes.
